The central government is considering raising long-term, interest-free loans to states in the upcoming Union Budget 2026-27. The allocation under the Special Assistance to States for Capital Investment scheme may increase to ₹1.8–2 lakh crore from ₹1.5 lakh crore this fiscal. This move aims to enhance capital expenditure, which is expected to drive economic growth and job creation.
