Saudi Arabia is implementing its Red Sea “Plan B” to allow oil tankers, including Chinese VLCCs, to bypass the Strait of Hormuz. The New Vista, owned by China Merchants Energy Shipping, is now en route to Quanzhou after altering its course due to security risks in the region. Analysts caution that while this strategy may alleviate some disruptions, capacity limitations remain a concern.
