Exide Industries has infused ₹450 crore into its electric vehicle battery arm, Exide Energy Solutions Ltd, as its Bengaluru gigafactory nears commissioning. This investment, through the allotment of 11.25 crore shares at ₹40 each, raises Exide's total commitment to ₹4,802 crore. The funds will support final preparations for commercial production set for FY26.
The gigafactory will initially have a 6 GWh capacity, focusing on high-performance NMC cells and LFP chemistry for mass-market EVs. Despite the investment, EESL reported a loss of ₹209 crore in FY25, highlighting immediate financial challenges.
