India has signed its first long-term contract to import 2.2 million tons of liquefied natural gas (LNG) from the US, set to begin in 2026. This agreement will enable India to source nearly 10% of its imported gas from the US Gulf Coast, a significant increase from 0.6% last year.
The deal involves major state-owned refiners including Indian Oil, Bharat Petroleum, and Hindustan Petroleum, which will receive shipments from Phillips 66, Chevron, and TotalEnergies. This move could enhance India's energy security and diversify its import sources.
