India turned a net importer of finished steel in April, importing 0.7 million metric tons, a 30.8% increase YoY. Exports rose to 0.5 million tons, up 24.9%. Finished steel consumption reached 13 million tons, reflecting an 8.2% annual growth, while crude steel production was 13.8 million tons, up 3.9%.
