The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has issued final norms to expand the credit derivatives market, permitting wider use of credit default swaps (CDS) and total return swaps. This move aligns with the Union government's goal to enhance risk management tools in the Union Budget 2026. The rules take effect immediately, with full implementation by 25 June 2026. Non-retail users can now deploy these instruments without restrictions, while non-resident users are limited to hedging purposes.
