State-run Steel Authority of India Ltd (SAIL) and Bharat Coking Coal Ltd (BCCL) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to jointly develop two coal blocks in West Bengal, with a combined capacity of 4 MTPA. This initiative aims to enhance domestic coking coal production and reduce reliance on imports, supporting the Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative.
• Extractable reserves estimated at 79 million tonnes in Phase I.
• Active mining will commence at BCCL's Kalyaneshwari block, with operational strategies in place for effective resource management.
