Indian Railway Finance Corporation (IRFC) secured USD 1.1 billion through an External Commercial Borrowing agreement with a consortium of banks, including State Bank of India and HDFC Bank. This marks IRFC's first overseas borrowing in FY 2026–27, aimed at funding Indian railway infrastructure projects. The loan has a 5-year tenor and is benchmarked to the TONAR rate.
The funding is expected to enhance infrastructure development in the railway sector, potentially boosting investor sentiment in related sectors.
