Reserve Bank of India Governor Sanjay Malhotra stated on 24 June 2026 that discussions regarding interest rate hikes are premature. The RBI's Monetary Policy Committee maintained the repo rate at 5.25% on 5 June 2026 after cumulative cuts of 1% since February 2025. The GDP growth forecast for FY 2027 was revised down to 6.6%, while inflation expectations rose to 5.1%.
