The combined market capitalisation of nine of India’s 10 most valued companies rose by ₹3.65 lakh crore last week, led by Tata Consultancy Services, Bharti Airtel and Infosys. The move came as the Sensex advanced 2,256.94 points, or 3.1%, and the Nifty gained 625.7 points, or 2.8%, marking the benchmarks’ strongest weekly performance in about six months. Information technology stocks drove the recovery after encouraging September-quarter earnings, while renewed buying in heavyweight shares supported the broader market 📈.
OI Charts data showed the strongest derivatives-backed move among the three highlighted stocks in Tata Consultancy Services. It closed at ₹2,465 on 16 Oct 2026, up 4.9% on the day, with volume of 12.2 million shares. Its futures open interest rose 1.1%, indicating long build-up, while the stock gained 14.3% over five sessions and 12.6% over 20 sessions. The options chain placed the largest call open interest at ₹2,400 and the largest put open interest at ₹2,100; max pain was ₹2,300 for the 27 Oct expiry.
Infosys closed at ₹1,161, up 4.6%, with volume of 25.6 million shares. Futures open interest increased 2.1%, also indicating long build-up, and the stock rose 13.5% over five sessions. Its largest call open interest was at ₹1,200, while the largest put open interest was at ₹1,120; max pain stood at ₹1,100. Bharti Airtel rose 2.8% to ₹1,905 on volume of 25.5 million shares, while futures open interest declined 2.1%, indicating short covering. Its five-session gain was 5.5%, with both the largest call and put open interest at ₹1,840 and max pain at the same level
The positioning indicates that technology shares attracted fresh futures exposure during the rebound, whereas the telecom move was supported by the unwinding of bearish positions. Traders will watch the 27 Oct derivatives expiry, the ₹2,400 call wall in Tata Consultancy Services, the ₹1,200 call wall in Infosys and the ₹1,840 concentration in Bharti Airtel. Sector-wide follow-through will depend on further quarterly results and whether the benchmark recovery holds.
