Maharashtra’s Food and Drug Administration alleged that expired, spoiled, rejected and customer-returned food products were diverted for resale through facilities linked to Reliance Retail, Reliance Consumer Products, Blinkit and Zomato Hyperpure. Coordinated raids in Thane and Pune on 14 and 15 Oct 2026 led to the seizure of food products valued at ₹48.09 lakh and an FIR against more than 10 executives, disposal-agency operators and local suppliers. ⚖️
The FIR was registered at Shanti Nagar police station in Thane under provisions of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023. TradingView reported that Blinkit chief executive Albinder Dhindsa was named, along with Reliance Consumer Products executives V Subramaniam, Ashok Kumar Singh, Vijay Bhikaji Kharmale and Nilesh Ramdasrao Deshmukh. Emails sent to Reliance Consumer Products and Zomato remained unanswered at the time of publication.
The FDA suspended five warehouse licences operated by the named companies and ordered two unlicensed establishments to shut. The facilities under action were located in Bhiwandi, Ambernath and Khed in Pune district. The allegations concern the handling of expired, damaged and returned inventory after it was routed through disposal agencies; the investigation and legal process will determine accountability.
The case raises compliance and reputation concerns for organised retail, quick-commerce and food-distribution chains 🛒. Restrictions on warehouse operations, licence renewals or disposal procedures could affect inventory handling and fulfilment in the affected districts. It also puts scrutiny on controls covering product returns, rejected stock and destruction records rather than only the final sale of food through delivery platforms.
