Torrent Power is considering a rupee-denominated bond issue of ₹4,500 cr to ₹5,000 cr, equivalent to roughly $473 million to $526 million, according to three merchant bankers cited by Reuters. The proposed fundraise could include maturities of three, five, seven and 10 years, with the company already speaking to investors. The issue could be completed before the end of October if firm commitments are secured. ⚡
The proposed borrowing would be the power producer’s second bond sale in the current financial year. In June, it raised ₹3,800 cr through bonds across the same four maturities, carrying coupons of 8.10% for three-year debt, 8.15% for five-year debt, and 8.20% for both seven-year and 10-year bonds. The latest issue would therefore provide a sizable source of long-term funding for capital expenditure, refinancing or other corporate requirements, although the company had not immediately responded to a request for comment.
Proposed issue ₹4,500–5,000 cr
• Maturities under consideration: three, five, seven and 10 years
• June bond sale: ₹3,800 cr, with coupons of 8.10%–8.20%
• Potential completion: before the end of October, subject to investor commitments
For the stock, OI Charts data showed a close of ₹1,239 on 15 Oct 2026, down 0.14% on the day, with volume of 1,86,145 shares. The stock had gained 2% over five sessions but remained down 4.4% over 20 sessions. Its 52-week range stood at ₹1,165 to ₹1,824, with the recent low recorded on 12 Oct 2026 and the high on 27 Apr 2026. The proposed borrowing adds visibility on financing activity, while the eventual coupon and allocation will indicate how investors price the company’s credit and the prevailing funding environment. 💼
The next market triggers are confirmation from the company or arrangers, the final issue size, pricing, maturity-wise coupon rates and the timing of the bond placement. Investors will also watch whether the proceeds are linked to fresh project spending or refinancing, as that distinction affects the balance-sheet and cash-flow read-through for the power sector.
