Indian defence stocks rallied on 27 Oct 2026 after the Defence Acquisition Council, chaired by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, cleared acquisition proposals worth ₹2.12 lakh crore for the armed forces. Apollo Micro Systems and Data Patterns gained more than 8%, while BEML, Hindustan Aeronautics, Bharat Electronics and other defence names also advanced. The defence index rose close to 3% to 8,907.90. 🚀
The proposals cover tracked guns, helicopters, drones and ship decoys, creating a potential order pipeline across defence electronics, aerospace, platforms and shipbuilding. However, the clearance is an approval for acquisition proposals rather than confirmed company orders. The eventual impact will depend on procurement allocations, tender participation, competitive bidding and contract awards. SBI Securities identified several listed defence companies that could potentially benefit from the programme.
Key Points:
• Bharat Electronics closed at ₹363.00 on 26 Oct, up 0.28%, with volume of 90.5 lakh shares, according to OI Charts data. Its futures open interest rose 1.5% in a long build-up, although the stock had fallen 5.1% over five sessions and 8.8% over 20 sessions.
• Hindustan Aeronautics closed at ₹4,775, up 1.1%, on volume of 5.8 lakh shares. OI Charts data showed a 0.7% rise in futures open interest with a long build-up, while the stock remained down 3.2% over five sessions.
• For the 27 Oct expiry, Bharat Electronics had maximum pain at ₹380, with the largest call open interest at ₹400 and put open interest at ₹390. Hindustan Aeronautics had maximum pain at ₹4,800, with call open interest concentrated at ₹5,000 and put open interest at ₹4,700.
The derivatives positioning showed fresh futures participation in both companies, but the recent price trend remained weak before the sector-wide news-led move. Bharat Electronics was also at its 52-week low of ₹356.20 on 26 Oct, while Hindustan Aeronautics traded below its 52-week high of ₹5,150.
Traders will watch whether the procurement clearance converts into company-specific tenders and orders, along with the expiry-day price action around the cited open-interest levels. Aequs moved against the sector, falling nearly 19% after its second-quarter results.
