Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders approved an additional ₹1,250 crore credit facility for its Sri Lankan subsidiary, Colombo Dockyard PLC, on 27 Oct 2026. The facility will be provided by State Bank of India through a Standby Letter of Credit issued in favour of SBI Sri Lanka. It is designed to help Colombo Dockyard furnish bank guarantees to clients against advances received for shipbuilding contracts 🚢.
The arrangement uses a back-to-back SBLC structure rather than an immediate cash transfer. Colombo Dockyard sought support because its available financial resources were limited relative to the volume of orders received. The ₹1,250 crore limit gives the bank in Colombo capacity to issue guarantees as required, while creating a contingent financial obligation for Mazagon Dock. Actual exposure will depend on guarantees issued and the subsidiary’s ability to fulfil its contracts.
₹1,250 crore SBLC supports the shipbuilding and defence-linked manufacturing chain ⚓, but the market reaction was negative on the approval date. OI Charts data showed Mazagon Dock closing at ₹1,754, down 6.45%, with volume of 41.4 lakh shares. The stock fell 16.7% over five sessions and 20.7% over 20 sessions, and closed at the bottom of its 52-week range of ₹1,688 to ₹2,882. Its futures open interest rose 16.8% alongside the decline, indicating short build-up. The options market showed a put-call ratio of 0.8, max pain at ₹1,900, the largest call open interest at ₹2,000 and the largest put open interest at ₹1,900 for the 23 Nov 2026 expiry.
State Bank of India also saw short build-up, with its futures open interest increasing 14.5% as the stock closed at ₹945.10, down 1.63%, according to OI Charts data. Its largest call open interest stood at ₹1,000, while the largest put open interest was at ₹1,100.
The next items to watch are the detailed facility terms, utilisation of the approved limit, bank guarantees issued, and Colombo Dockyard’s contract execution and financial disclosures. The ₹1,900 and ₹2,000 option open-interest levels are key reference points for the near-term derivatives setup.
