Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers signed a contract with Oil and Natural Gas Corporation on 15 Oct 2026 to build four platform supply vessels worth approximately ₹1,032 cr or US$109 million. The delivery schedule runs through 30 Jul 2030, adding commercial visibility to the state-owned defence shipbuilder’s expansion into specialised offshore support 🚢.
The contract followed a Notification of Award received on 30 Jul 2026 and a successful bid disclosed in August. Each vessel will be approximately 80 metres long, with a 20-metre beam, a deadweight capacity of 3,000 tonnes and an open deck area of about 650 square metres. The vessels will have endurance of 45+3 days and will be classed by the Indian Register of Shipping.
The hybrid vessels are designed for offshore oil and gas exploration and production support. Their technology includes electrically driven azimuth thrusters, lithium-ion battery storage for peak-load management, dynamic positioning and emergency response capability. The order connects shipbuilding demand with offshore energy infrastructure ⚡, while the contract value gives the shipyard a clearer measure of potential revenue than was available when the agreement was first reported.
OI Charts data showed Garden Reach closed at ₹2,086 on 19 Oct, down 1.6% on the day, with volume of 207,103 shares. It was up 0.2% over five sessions but down 13.5% over 20 sessions, and remained between its 52-week low of ₹1,964 and high of ₹3,339. The stock response therefore remained set against a weaker recent trend despite the commercial order.
Oil and Natural Gas Corporation closed at ₹225 on 19 Oct, up 1.4%, with volume of 5,262,091 shares. OI Charts data showed short covering in its futures, with open interest down 0.9% to 62,291,250 shares and the contract at a 0.20% discount. For the 27 Oct expiry, the put-call ratio was 0.45, max pain was ₹225, and the largest call and put open interest stood at ₹225 and ₹220 respectively. Investors will watch vessel construction and delivery milestones, commissioning progress, further commercial shipbuilding orders and any operational disclosures from the offshore fleet. Offshore project activity and future vessel requirements remain important markers for the energy segment.
