Transformers & Rectifiers (India) announced a ₹1,250 cr investment to establish three greenfield manufacturing plants at its Chiyada manufacturing complex in Gujarat. The company said the plan is aimed at localising critical components, securing its supply chain and reducing import dependence in the power-equipment business ⚡
The proposed bushing facility will manufacture oil impregnated paper, resin impregnated paper and resin impregnated fibre bushings for applications up to 800kV. These components are used in extra-high-voltage transformers. Alongside the bushing plant, facilities for pressboard and insulation and continuously transposed conductor will strengthen the company’s vertically integrated manufacturing ecosystem.
The announcement is significant for India’s electrical-equipment and power-infrastructure sectors because domestic production of high-voltage transformer components can reduce exposure to overseas supply disruptions. The plan also expands the company’s manufacturing scope beyond transformer assembly into strategically important inputs, although the market impact will depend on project execution, commissioning and the pace at which the new capacity contributes to revenue and margins.
