The Competition Commission of India approved four corporate transactions, including Xavier Niel’s proposed acquisition of a 16.2% stake in Vodafone Group for €5.1 billion, or about $5.5 billion. The transaction is being executed through Vega SAS, a French holding company owned by Niel’s family investment vehicle Maya SAS, which is acquiring the holding from Emirates Telecommunications Group. On completion, Vega is expected to become Vodafone’s single largest shareholder 📡.
The clearance was required because Vodafone Group has a domestic presence through its joint venture with the Aditya Birla Group, even though Vega has no direct business operations in India. Vodafone stake approval removes one Indian competition-law condition for the proposed transfer, while completion and any subsequent strategic action remain subject to applicable approvals and transaction terms. The decision is relevant to the telecom sector because it changes the ownership structure of a global operator still linked to India.
The regulator also approved transactions involving Navi, Aditya Birla Renewables and Adani Energy Solutions, according to TradingView. Other reports referred to approvals involving additional combinations, including the proposed merger of Sapphire Foods India with Devyani International, which would bring major KFC and Pizza Hut operators under a combined listed-company structure 🍔. The reports differ in how they count or describe the approved transactions, but consistently identify the Vodafone stake acquisition as one of the clearances.
OI Charts data for Adani Energy Solutions on 30 Oct 2026 showed a close of ₹1,350, down 1.1%, on volume of 822,926 shares. Its futures open interest rose 0.1%, indicating short build-up, while the futures traded at a 0.01% discount. The options put-call ratio was 0.81, with max pain at ₹1,260; the largest call open interest was at ₹1,300 and the largest put open interest at ₹1,160 ⚡. The stock gained 1.9% over five sessions and 4.8% over 20 sessions. Sapphire Foods and Devyani International fell 1.0% each on 30 Oct, while their five-session moves were positive at 3.1% and 3.6%, respectively.
Traders will watch completion of the Vodafone transfer, any post-completion strategic disclosures, and further CCI filings on the other combinations. The ₹1,300 call wall and ₹1,260 max-pain level are the immediate reference points for the listed energy name, while the restaurant merger remains subject to the relevant process and approvals.
