Coal India spent ₹7,966 crore on capital expenditure during April–September 2026, up 27% from ₹6,283 crore in the corresponding period of FY26. The spending reached 109% of the H1 target of ₹7,286 crore and crossed 48% of the company’s full-year capex target of ₹16,500 crore. The disclosure was made on 26 Oct 2026 and reported on 27 Oct 2026.
Mine infrastructure ₹2,152 cr was the largest investment area, covering railway sidings, corridors, coal handling plants, silos and weighbridges. Land acquisition accounted for ₹2,033 crore, while plant and machinery attracted ₹1,394 crore, including ₹452 crore for heavy earth-moving machinery. Diversification projects received more than ₹739 crore, while mine development spending exceeded ₹1,000 crore.
The allocation shows that the state-owned miner is directing capital towards production capacity, mine access and coal evacuation ⚡. Better evacuation infrastructure can support the movement of higher output, while land acquisition and machinery spending are linked to the expansion and modernisation of mining operations. The capex increase therefore matters not only for the company’s project execution but also for the domestic energy supply chain.
