Ambuja Cements reported a sharp drop in Q2 FY27 profit as a prior-year tax reversal created a high base, while revenue increased and shareholders approved the proposed amalgamation of ACC and Orient Cement with the company. Net profit fell 90% year on year to ₹114 cr for the quarter ended 30 September 2026, compared with ₹1,158 cr a year earlier. Revenue from operations rose 10% to ₹6,113 cr from ₹5,579 cr. 📉
The company said the profit comparison was affected by a ₹1,697 cr income-tax provision reversal recorded in the year-ago quarter. However, consolidated EBITDA margin also declined to 13.8% from 19.2%, pointing to pressure on operating profitability despite higher revenue. The result adds detail to the earlier update on ACC’s resilient Q2 performance and places margins, premium volumes, capacity additions and energy costs at the centre of the cement group’s earnings narrative. 🏗️
Merger approvals advance as shareholders have approved the proposed schemes involving ACC and Orient Cement. The transactions remain subject to the requisite approvals and are expected to be completed in FY27. The approval moves the One Cement Platform initiative forward, but the remaining regulatory process and implementation timeline remain important milestones for the combined group.
OI Charts data showed ACC closing at ₹1,140 on 28 Oct 2026, down 0.6% for the session, with volume of 156,726 shares. The stock was down 7.8% over 20 sessions and remained close to its 52-week low of ₹1,115 recorded on 27 Oct 2026. Ambuja Cements closed at ₹351.20, up 0.7%, with volume of 8,615,422 shares, but was down 8.6% over 20 sessions and near its 52-week low of ₹341.
In derivatives, Ambuja’s futures open interest rose 7.3% on 28 Oct, indicating a long build-up, while the put-call ratio stood at 0.55. The ₹430 strike had the largest call and put open interest for the 23 Nov 2026 expiry, with max pain at ₹365. Traders will watch the next regulatory approvals, FY27 merger completion timeline, margin recovery and whether both stocks stabilise near their recent lows. ⚡
