The U.S. Treasury sanctioned a Greek-Panamanian law firm, two shipping agents and nine vessels on 21 Oct 2026, widening Washington’s campaign against Iran’s shadow fleet as Brent crude moved above $110 a barrel. Treasury said the network helped register shipping companies that moved hundreds of millions in Iranian oil and related steel and petrochemical cargoes. Five people linked to the law firm were also designated. ⚖️
The action blocks property tied to seven cargo ships operated by Roxette Maritime and two UAE-flagged support vessels owned by Whales Shipping Line. Singapore-based Amigoz Singapore and Dubai-based Whales Shipping Line were also targeted. FinCEN used an administrative subpoena under Section 5318(k) for the first time, adding a financial-compliance layer to the enforcement effort.
The sanctions squeeze access to shipping, insurance and financial services for vessels suspected of carrying Iranian petroleum, but the new report stressed that they do not immediately reduce pump prices. It cited US retail prices of $4.29 per gallon for gasoline and $6.32 for diesel, underscoring the limited near-term impact on consumers. 🚢
For Indian energy counters, OI Charts data showed a mixed response on 21 Oct. ONGC closed at ₹225.62, up 0.3%, on volume of 8.4 million shares. Its futures showed long build-up, with open interest up 0.1%; the ₹225 call had the largest call open interest, the ₹220 put had the largest put open interest and max pain was ₹225 for the 27 Oct expiry. The stock remained 26.6% below its 52-week high of ₹307.50 and was down 4.2% over 20 sessions.
Reliance closed at ₹1,209, up 0.6%, on volume of 17.6 million shares. Its futures showed short covering as open interest fell 2.7%. The ₹1,250 call and ₹1,160 put had the largest open-interest positions, while max pain was ₹1,210 for the same expiry. Reliance had gained 3.6% in five sessions but remained down 3.1% over 20 sessions.
Traders will watch whether Brent holds above $110, whether further Treasury or FinCEN measures disrupt Iranian exports, and whether the 27 Oct derivatives expiry pulls prices toward ₹225 for ONGC and ₹1,210 for Reliance. The open-interest walls remain key reference points for the two counters.
