Brent crude crossed $110 a barrel on 16 Oct 2026 for the first time since May, before closing at $109.86. West Texas Intermediate rose 3.5% to $101.41, gaining more than 10% over the week, while Brent advanced about 5%. The move followed heightened geopolitical tensions and concerns over oil shipping routes, regional production and export infrastructure.
The risk for India extends beyond petrol and diesel. A prolonged rise in crude can raise public and private transport costs, increase goods-distribution expenses and lift construction and manufacturing inputs. Higher logistics costs can pressure company margins, while more expensive household transport and essentials can reduce urban discretionary spending. The impact is therefore relevant across Energy, Automobiles, Infrastructure and consumer-facing businesses.
For Reliance Industries, OI Charts data for 16 Oct showed the stock at ₹1,211, down 0.31% on the day, with volume at 17,225,283 shares. The stock remained 3.5% higher over five sessions but was down 2.6% over 20 sessions and traded near the lower end of its 52-week range of ₹1,152 to ₹1,612. In derivatives, futures open interest rose 1.9% with a short build-up, while the futures contract traded at a 0.05% discount to spot. The put-call ratio was 0.61 and max pain stood at ₹1,210.
Key levels to watch:
• The ₹1,250 strike had the largest call open interest, marking the main overhead positioning level for the 27 Oct expiry.
• The ₹1,160 strike had the largest put open interest, providing the key downside positioning reference.
• With 11 days remaining to expiry, the ₹1,210 max-pain level and the short futures build-up indicate that derivatives positioning remains important as crude volatility develops.
The next market signals are the path of Brent above or below $110, any disruption to shipping or export infrastructure, and how quickly fuel costs pass through to transport, manufacturing and household budgets. The stock’s response around ₹1,160 and ₹1,250 will show where derivatives participants are concentrated. ⚡
